No More Facebook?

On October 31, 2024, I posted my final ATC to Facebook.

That is the plan.

As of Tuesday, November 5, I have followed through on my resolution.

I have not posted any more cards on Facebook.

Scrolling through all of the "eye candy" was something I used to do quite often. I never really timed myself, but I may have spent an hour each day looking through Facebook postings. I may have spent MORE than an hour. Usually, I would check Facebook the first thing in the morning. This would be a fairly long scroll session, since I had been "off the boards" for at least nine hours. I would check again in the afternoon, and once more in the evening. That is a LOT of time online.

Five scroll-free days!

This resolution to stay off social media gives me an odd feeling of FREEDOM....

But...

The down side is the loss of contact with "online friends."

I've received messages from several great ATC friends. I hope we will still stay in touch, without Facebook. I'm not sure how easy that will be. It used to be so easy to post and comment and meet new artists.

I will miss that.

November 16, 2024

I have not posted anything on Facebook or Instagram this month.

I DID check "Emily's Group" the day after the election. Many good friends posted meaningful cards and I wanted to see them.

I DO take a peek, generally once a day, but I spend minutes instead of hours each week. I still find the AI conversations to be interesting, and I read through all the comments in that post.

Avoiding social media makes me happier.

Final Update

May 12, 2026

I managed to refrain from posting on Facebook for ELEVEN MONTHS. ( I started to write "I managed to stay off of Facebook...." but that isn't true. I still looked at ATCs, I just didn't post anything.) During those eleven months I was content making art at the Mulvane Art Lab. I volunteered on Saturdays, worked with school groups, and even taught an acrylic painting class. But I missed making art with adults, so I went back to Emily's Facebook Group in September.
