On October 31, 2024, I stopped trading ATCs via Facebook.
For two full months, I did not request any cards.
For two full months, I did not post any cards.
For two full months, I did not . . . well . . .
I DID log in and peek at the ATCs being posted. But never more than once a day, and sometimes only once a week...
It felt good to be "free" of Facebook. It felt good to stop worrying about being "in time" to acquire my next traded ATC.
During those Facebook-free months, I brought my ATC materials to the Mulvane Art Lab. I posted a bunch of ATCs on a big bulletin board, forming what I call a "Pool Swap." This is the simplest way to swap: Make an ATC. Take one from the board. Put your ATC on the board.
Fewer than twelve people have swapped so far, but I hope to have a better exhibit when the I return to the Art Lab sessions on January 11. (The Art Lab re-opens on Tuesday, January 7, but I only volunteer on Saturdays.)
Which leads me to December 31, 2024.
And Messenger.
While I don't check Facebook every day any more, I DO get Messenger notifications.
Late in the day, on the last day of the year, I had a marvelous conversation with my good friend Emily W. We talked about
swap hosts who set lots of rules, and
an upcoming Scrappy Hearts swap, and
the joys of learning new things.
Emily sent pix of some of her new cards, and, of course, I WANTED to trade!
But I hadn't made any new ATCs in two months.
Our conversation resumed the next day.
We talked about
digital galleries, and
cards we have traded, and
political ATCs, and
the upcoming Scrappy Hearts swap.
So it is a little after noon on New Year's Day. I have updated my ATC website. I have had a fun conversation with a friend. This afternoon I will be making ATCs.
Life is good.
