In November, I joined a "Tomten Coin" swap on ATCs For All.
Drawing or painting within a circle is not something I do well. In this case, I got carried away with the idea of making the coins convertible.
So that is what I focussed on.
It took a few tries to get it right, but I am proud of the result!
I used the Cricut Design Space to create a sheet with circles and a custom-design insert. Here's how the sheet looked.
It WOULD be possible to make a convertible coin without a cutting machine. The shape is fairly simple.
Once the coin has been decorated, turn it over and place the insert as shown.
Carefully add double stick tape on either side of the insert.
Trim.
Theoretically, a second circle, cut from decorated paper, can then be attached...
but I find it easier to cut a square, remove the double-stick backing, and attach the square. THEN do the trimming!
(Precision is not my thing!)
It's MUCH easier to trim away the extra than to line up two circles (one with double-stick tape) and get them to be a perfect match!
Write information on the insert.
CAREFULLY slide it up between the two pieces of card stock.
Since my coins were going to a swap, I also included a little instruction sheet.
Of course, you can adapt this design and make convertible coins WITHOUT a cutting machine. The only tricky part will be punching a small hole. (I have not looked.... are tiny hole punches available? Probably.) My Cricut Joy replaces a lot of tools!
