TMAS 09 The Learners Era

In this drawing, I’ve again tried to connect many of the book’s themes. At the bottom is what now completely dominates our society. LOGO serves as a small slow starting point for what is now culminating in AI. At the top, however, I’ve placed those elements that will become much more important in the long run, and will also be under attack by AI: the social interactions. We also recognise the torch of Voz do Operário. Incidentally, the complete logo of the institution also depicts a globe.

But I opted for Mars. With a literally green and somewhat elderly Greta Thunberg as a metaphor for terraformation. And of course, the paramount importance of our vigilance regarding the unchecked and short-term capitalism is up to. The pilot friend in the book flies to the moon, not to Mars. That’s why I’m making an allusion to the Méliès film Voyage dans la Lune and one of the most famous frames of that film is the moon that catches a rocket in the eye. At the top right is Ghent ballade singer Walter de Buck’s kite with the money he wanted to get rid of tied to the tail. Money that now all flows off to the only thing that seems to matter today: AI.

The elements of the print are not original Nuyts. They are also a visual metaphor for all the works and books that underpin the saga.

MAS 09 De Mathetiek Era

In deze tekening heb ik opnieuw veel thema’s van het boek proberen te koppelen. Onderaan staat wat nu onze maatschappij helemaal beheerst. LOGO als klein startpunt van wat nu aan het uitmonden is in AI. Bovenaan heb ik echter die elementen gezet die op langere termijn veel belangrijker zullen worden, en ook al door AI belaagd zullen worden: het sociale. We herkennen ook de fakkel van Voz do Operário. Haar volledige logo geeft trouwens ook een wereldbol weer.

Maar ik heb geopteerd voor Mars. Met een letterlijk groene en al wat oudere Greta Thunberg als een metafoor voor de terraformatie. En natuurlijk het kapitaal belang van onze waakzaamheid over wat het onbelemmerd en op korte termijn denkend kapitalisme aan het uitvreten is. De piloot vriend vliegt in het boek naar de maan en niet naar Mars. Daarom maak ik een allusie naar de Méliès film Voyage dans la Lune. En één van de bekendste frames van die film is toch wel de maan die een raket in het oog krijgt. Bovenaan rechts staat het vliegertje van Walter de Buck met het geld dat hij weg wou aan de staart gebonden. Geld dat nu allemaal afvloeit naar het enige wat nu nog lijkt te tellen: AI.

De elementen van de prent zijn dus weer niet origineel Nuyts. Het is ergens ook een beeldende metafoor voor al de werken en boeken die de saga onderbouwen.

Neste desenho, tentei novamente juntar muitos dos temas do livro. Na parte inferior está o que agora domina completamente a nossa sociedade. O LOGO serve como um pequeno e lento ponto de partida para o que agora culmina na IA. No topo, porém, coloquei os elementos que se tornarão muito mais importantes a longo prazo e que também estarão sob ataque da IA: as interações sociais. Reconhecemos a tocha da Voz do Operário. Aliás, o logotipo completo da instituição também representa um globo.

Mas optei por Marte. Com uma Greta Thunberg literalmente verde e um tanto mais idosa como metáfora para a terraformação. E, claro, a importância primordial da nossa vigilância em relação ao capitalismo descontrolado e de curto prazo está no topo. O amigo piloto do livro voa para a Lua, não para Marte. É por isso que faço uma alusão ao filme de Méliès Voyage dans la Lune. Uma das cenas mais conhecidas desse filme é a lua a receber um foguete no olho. No canto superior direito está o papagaio de papel do cantor de baladas de Gent, Walter de Buck, com o dinheiro do qual ele queria se livrar amarrado na cauda. Dinheiro que agora flui para a única coisa que parece importar hoje: IA.

Os elementos do desenho não são originais Nuyts. Eles também são uma metáfora visual para todas as obras e livros que sustentam a saga.
