TMAS 08 Mass Mediocrity

This cover might surprise a bit. But I’ve already said I want to respect the artistic aspects of the period depicted in the covers. I was thinking of Vasarely’s zebra drawing.

And since this book mentions Czechoslovakia, the idea suddenly occurred to me to merge the FIMEM logo into a Vasarely globe. I did turn the logo upside down, though. Because when it comes to education, children in the southern parts of our planet still often suffer the consequences of living there. Perhaps education only works well in the far north and in places where anthropogogues have been at work.

The rocket demonstrations of the mid-80s couldn’t be left out, of course, and I absolutely wanted to include something by Masereel in the drawing when I thought of John, who was once secretary of the association of the same name. After a long search, I actually found a woodcut of him in which he also refers to the weapons as trash.

MAS 08 Massale Middelmatigheid

Wellicht verrast deze nieuwe kaft een beetje. Maar ik heb al gezegd dat ik toch ook een beetje het artistieke van het beschreven tijdvak in de kaften wil respecteren. Ik dacht aan de de Vasarely zebratekening.

En vermits er over Tsjecho-Slowakije wordt gesproken in dit boek kwam er plots bij mij het idee op om het logo van FIMEM in een Vasarelyglobe te versmelten. Ik heb het logo wel omgedraaid. Want wat onderwijs betreft, de kinderen in de zuidelijke delen van onze planeet delven daar nog steeds vaak het onderspit. Misschien loopt het enkel goed in het hoge noorden en de plekken waar antropogogen aan het werk zijn geweest.

De rakettenbetogingen van halverwege de jaren tachtig konden natuurlijk niet ontbreken en ik wou absoluut ook iets van Masereel in de tekening betrekken toen ik aan John dacht die ooit secretaris was van vereniging met dezelfde naam. Na lang zoeken, vond ik zowaar een houtsnede waar hij ook de wapens naar de prullenbak verwijst.

Esta capa pode surpreender um pouco. Mas eu já disse que quero respeitar os aspectos artísticos do período retratado nas capas. Estava a pensar naquele desenho de Vasarely da zebra.

E como o livro fala a certa altura da Checoslováquia ocorreu-me de repente a ideia de fundir o logotipo da FIMEM com um globo de Vasarely. Mas virei o logotipo educacional de cabeça para baixo. Porque, quando se trata de ensino as crianças nas partes mais ao sul do nosso planeta ainda sofrem frequentemente as consequências de viver lá. Talvez o ensino só funcione bem no extremo norte e em lugares onde antropogogos têm trabalhado.

As demonstrações contra os mísseis de meados dos anos 80 não podiam ficar de fora, é claro, e quis muito incluir algo de Masereel no desenho, quando pensei em John, que foi secretário da associação com o mesmo nome. Depois de uma longa busca, encontrei uma xilogravura dele na qual ele também se refere às armas como lixo.
