Safety and Security
The HOA has installed 1080p and higher cameras at most perimeters.
8 Ways you can keep our community safe
Never ever prop open an entrance/exit door.
Do not let anyone in who cannot let themselves in via Latch. If an unfamiliar person is standing outside, ask for the unit number. Actual residents who really did forget their Latch will immediately be able to say, "I live in unit..." but a non-resident typically will give you a blank look or stammer out a unit number at random that doesn't exist. If a non-resident says, "I am trying to find so-and-so," then advise him or her to ring the intercom and then close the door.
Remove or hide all visible items in your car, and do not keep spare keys in vulnerable places. Car Theft Prevention Tips.
Lock your car at all times, even in the garage. Car Theft Prevention Tips
Bikes, scooters, and motorcycles left (even locked) in the garage may be a target of theft.
Lock your unit door every single time, even when you are home.
Don't put your unit keys in vulnerable locations. Do not leave keys in your door for "just a minute" while you run a quick errand. In public spaces (like the fitness center) keep keys handy (do not put them in a cubby-hole or elsewhere).
Package deliveries: Packages that are allowed to pile up during a resident's absence are an immediate tip-off that someone is not home. This not only jeopardizes the safe arrival of the packages, but makes an attractive target for package thieves for an entire hallway (or complex). If you are expecting a package delivery at a time when you will not be home, arrange pick-up in advance with a trusted neighbor. If you travel or are gone a lot, consider off-site deliveries (to delivery services, work sites, etc).
If you observe suspicious or criminal behavior in the area…
Only confront suspicious individuals at your own risk. Use a different entrance if you see someone loitering outside.
Call 9/11 (408.277.8900 from a cell) and give dispatch your location. Be prepared to provide a description of individual(s) involved.
Anyone on the loading dock is on private property and is trespassing. Please call 911 to have police remove anyone “partying” or loitering. (The location of the loading dock is White Street, adjacent to Diridon Station and the VTA station).

The information below (from past meetings) describes the evolution of security precautions at Plant 51. Also included are documents outlining statistics and costs of security measures that have been considered, and when appropriate, adopted.
Access Breach
Issue:
Non-residents continue to make unauthorized entries into the building via a variety of methods including:
Tailgating delivery and residents entering
Tailgating garage doors
Climbing over fences/etc
Entering when doors are propped open
Mitigation Options:
Education campaign
This change is a culture/mindset shift - it is not okay to tailgate. Period.
Before unlocking the door, ensure there is nobody nearby who can tailgate in: Politely and firmly ask them to wait for the door to close first.
Example talking points:
"For our safety, please tap in separately"
"I'm concerned about building safety, please enter after I've closed the gate"
Do not tailgate others: Wait for the door/gate to close and tap again to prove they are a community resident. Tapping while entering also ensures your whereabouts are accounted for in the building in case of emergencies to help first responders and police account for who is in the building or not.
Landlords: you are responsible for educating tenants and to provide them with the CC&R documents in the HOA portal.
More security cameras to monitor public spaces (e.g. hallways, stairwells, bike room, etc). More cameras are being evaluated. Opportunities to review system, incorporate AI to determine suspicious and bad actors or actors in unauthorized zones at certain times of the day/night should be explored.
Security guards will not be considered given the cost impacts (quotes provided would result in a $40/month increase). Advocacy of any capital-intensive options should come from owners and not tenants, as owners would be shouldering the cost burden.

Need to tag and bag bikes
Need to add additional security cameras directly in the bike room
