On this page you will find information related to community safety. OV NAP and community partners have two initiatives that address safety in our community. The first initiative is the community safety audit, which was undertaken in July 2017. The second initiative is the Oakwood Vaughan Community Safety Protocol.

The Safety Audit was developed in 1989 by the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC). It was first created to bring attention to violence against women in public spaces and was based on the reality that people of diverse identifies and communities have different safety concerns.
A Safety Audit is a collaborative undertaking, conducted with community residents. METRAC provides training on how to conduct the safety audit tour, where residents walk around an area of their community, identifying safety concerns. METRAC also actively assists during the audit tour to help identify safety issues and discuss solutions.
After the safety audit walking tour, local residents debrief on what issues have emerged and what safety concerns have been identified, and develop a list of safety recommendations. METRAC then takes completed survey audit questionnaires and the identified safety recommendations, along with any other feedback and insights, and creates a report and action plan for development. As more feedback is received and situations develop, the report will be updated, refined, and otherwise altered to better reflect the concerns and needs of the community.
This report is shared with both the community and elected officials, so that identified safety concerns can be rectified.
