Functional behavior is based on cognition
Describes the nature of an individual's cognitive functional abilities
Seeks to identify appropriate activities/adaptations that will optimize the ability of individuals with a cognitive impairment to function everyday
Consists of 6 cognitive levels that describe typical behaviors of each level based on clinical observation and help determine the level based on their score on the assessment
Level 1: Automatic Actions (total cognitive assist)
Level 2: Postural Actions (maximum cognitive assist)
Level 3: Manual Actions (moderate cognitive assist)
Level 4: Goal Directed Actions (minimum cognitive assist)
Level 5: Exploratory Actions (standby for cognitive assist)
Level 6: Planned Actions (no cognitive assistance)
Rates client's cognitive levels in IADLs using three perspectives to validate scores: Self-report, therapist observation, & caregiver report
Assesses: self-care, instrumental activities at home & in the community, social communication through verbal & written comprehension & expression, & readiness for work relations & performance
Aim: to promote safe, routine performance of an individual's valued occupations & to maximize participation in life situations
