OVERVIEW-
Bismuth subsalicylate is an antidiarrheal and anti-inflammatory agent used for symptomatic treatment of nausea, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea, and other temporary discomforts of the stomach and gastrointestinal system. Bismuth subsalicylate is an antacid and anti-diarrheal medicine.
Take this medicine by mouth, usually as needed, as directed by the product package or as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your age, medical state, and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose or take this drug more often than advised. Do not take more of this medicine than recommended for your age. There are many names and forms of bismuth subsalicylate available. Read the dosing instructions carefully for each product because the dosing directions may be different between goods.
USES-
This drug is used to treat occasional upset stomach, heartburn, and nausea. It is also used to treat diarrhea and help avoid travelers' diarrhea. It works by helping to slow the spread of bacteria that might be causing the diarrhea. This product should not be used to self-treat diarrhea if you also have a fever or blood/mucus in the stools.

SIDE EFFECTS-
Darkening of the stools and/or tongue , unusual decreased urination, unusual dry mouth/thirst, fast heartbeat, dizziness/lightheadedness.
DIRECTION FOR USE-
For diarrhea or upset stomach: Adults and teenagers—The normal dose is 2 pills every half-hour to one hour. You should not consume more than 16 tablets in 24 hours .
HOW IT WORKS-
The antidiarrheal effect of BSS is most likely due to: The reduction in prostaglandin formation, as BSS inhibits cyclooxygenase. Prostaglandin induces inflammation and hypermotility.
