OVERVIEW
Clotrimazole is used to treat and prevent yeast infections of the mouth and throat in adults and children older than 3 years.The clotrimazole lozenge is not absorbed through your stomach. clotrimazole will not treat fungal infections in any other part of your body.
USES OF CLOTRIMAZOLE
Skin infections such as jock itch, ringworm, athlete's foot, and other fungal skin infections (candidiasis) are treated with clotrimazole. In addition, pityriasis (tinea versicolor), a fungal infection resulting in a lightening or darkening of the skin on the arms, legs, neck, and chest, is treated with this medicine. An azole antifungal, clotrimazole functions by stopping the growth of fungus.
BENEFITS OF CLOTRIMAZOLE
An antifungal drug called clotrimazole is used to treat several types of fungal skin infections. The specific uses and advantages are as follows:
1. Ringworm, jock itch, and athlete's foot: Clotrimazole is an effective treatment for common fungal diseases such as ringworm, jock itch, and athlete's foot. It functions by stopping the development of fungi on the skin.
2. Candida (Yeast Infections of the Skin): Clotrimazole is used to treat candidiasis, which includes skin yeast infections. It facilitates recovery and reduces symptoms.
3. Pityriasis (Tinea Versicolor): This drug is also used to treat pityriasis (tinea versicolor), a fungal illness that results in skin that is lighter or darker on the arms, legs, neck, and chest.
4. Vaginal Thrush: Clotrimazole comes in a vaginal cream form among other types. It can be used to treat vaginal thrush, a yeast infection, in the vaginal region.
SIDE EFFECTS OF CLOTRIMAZOLE
The treated skin may experience burning, stinging, swelling, irritation, redness, pimple-like lumps, soreness, or peeling. Notify your pharmacist or doctor right away if any of these side effects persist or worsen.
Remember that if your doctor has prescribed this drug, it is because they believe it will benefit you more than it will cause negative side effects. Many users of this medicine report no significant adverse effects.
If you experience any major adverse effects, such as blistering, oozing, or open sores, notify your doctor straight once.
Rarely, this medication might cause a very dangerous adverse reaction. However, if you have any of the following signs of a significant allergic response, obtain medical attention right away: rash, breathing difficulties, extreme dizziness, itching or swelling, especially in the face, tongue, or neck. This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
HOW TO USE CLOTRIMAZOLE
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
Clotrimazole is usually given 3 to 5 times per day. Allow the lozenge to dissolve slowly in your mouth without chewing.
