A family of six about to implode
This is how Graduation feels
A rupture to the nucleus of my fragile heart
A galaxy collapsing
I once tied pink sparkly shoes
That glittered like the night sky
Wrapped your dark strands
In pigtails tight and safe
Now you wear boots
Built for combat
Thick soles and black leather
Hair long and loose
“Enjoy the moments,” they say “It goes fast,”
Like I am the child in need of comfort
Caught in the temper tantrum of motherhood
Hating that they are right
My hands ball up to catch
The slippery days
Childhood trickling away
Into something bigger, brighter
I’m trying not to dampen the fire
Give you room to fan your flame
Feeling lucky to be in your orbit
Witnessing this stellar light
Going supernova
