Two

Two
is not one.
It’s not lonely.
It’s together.
It’s one turtle dove calling the other on its birthday.
It’s February, the silver medal month,
where hearts balloon with love and
a fair and balanced groundhog
shares his view.
It’s never too little and more than enough.
It’s the stick-and-twigs middle pig.
It’s the grade after first, before third, before cursive,
before life gets complex and the world gets too big.
It’s lunch.
It’s recess.
It’s on the aisle.
It’s the VP, the wingman.
It’s split pins.
It’s crazy chromosomes.
It’s the runner-up, not the loser.
Close, but no cigar --
but who wants a cigar?
It’s not a shit-show.
It’s the right choice,
the right door
that’s so much better
than the others,
than
rock and paper
or paper and scissors
or scissors and rock.
It’s good and fast and
won’t be cheap.
It’s a gear.
A hand on a clock.
A hand to hold when you get that call
in the middle of the night.
