April 24
by Rebecca Reeder
Wake up! Wake up. It is day 24,
A day in April but so much more.
Why? (you wonder); “Why?” you query.
Why isn’t this date just ordinary?
The secret lies in English spelling;
That is where the magic’s dwelling!
Today is special, it’s given 2 you
4all of the wonderful things you can do.
You can read books and let your dreams fly.
And give friends a hug if they need 2 cry.
Then look left and right 4 all of the chances
Today can provide 4 your heart 2 do dances.
There’s pretty blue sky and warm shining sun
Welcoming you as the day has begun.
If skies are filled with a marshmallow cloud,
This is a chance 2 make your brain proud!
Think up a story 4 that cloud shape
(You might see a dog or a pig or a face!)
Yes, this day is special… but should you think not,
I’m gonna tell you right now what you’ve got:
A chance 2 choose gratitude 4 being here,
With chances 2 smile at everyone near.
Chances 4 kindness that help create friends;
A chance 2 say “sorry” and help make amends.
Chances 4 saying I’m wrong and you’re right,
If new information has now shed some light.
And other great things 2 do are in place,
Just waiting 4 someone like you to show grace
By agreeing 2 sit with the new kid at lunch
Or sharing your cookies if you have a bunch
Or asking your neighbors if all is okay
When you haven’t seen them for many a day.
4 all of these things might seem really small,
But added together they’re bigger than all
Of the negative things that make a complaint
And try 2 hide joy like emotional paint.
No, today is 4 you and it’s good things galore.
Grab it and celebrate 4/24!
