No longer twenty-three
I'm no longer twenty-three, but I've known
A fortnight and more of tortured poets
And that department, I've been chair
more than once without thinking about
What happened the last time
In a park outside of town
All the promises we made, lying
Upon red creeping thyme,
Were just words that he said
Like that airport goodbye
Rushed without meaning
Giving up’s not the same as letting go
But Daddy I love him
He handed back all our letters
Wrapped up in red ribbon
You say, ‘Cause you can’t keep a man
Who doesn’t know he deserves you
Now that I'm older I know
How to fake an ice breaker
Without getting broken
For a little good danger.
This time, I can fix him (No really I can)
And I can do it with a broken heart
‘Cause all of the best songs are sung alone
