Physics Unit 09
Reflection and Refraction
Targets:
Physics Target 09-01: I can describe the principles of reflection and predict images in mirrors.
Physics Target 09-02: I can describe the principles of refraction and predict images from lenses.
Text Objectives:
9:1 Given the direction of light striking a reflective surface, predict the path of the reflected light.
9:2 Draw ray diagrams for plane mirrors, convex mirrors and concave mirrors and use the diagram to predict the location of an image, whether the image is real or virtual, erect or inverted, and larger or smaller than the object.
9:3 Calculate index of refraction.
9:4 Describe the process of total internal reflection.
9:5 Draw ray diagrams for convex and concave lenses and use the diagram to predict the location of an image, whether the image is real or virtual, erect or inverted, and larger or smaller than the object.
9:6 Explain how the human eye focuses light and causes of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
