Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have my homework finished or ready to turn in at the beginning of class.

What should I do?

     1)  Notify the teacher before class starts.  Have a plan for when the work will be finished.

The consequence for late work is loss of open campus during 9th hour.  You lose the day it was due plus any additional days until it is turned in.

2)  Sign the 9th hour study hall log book.  Record the name of the assignment you do not have completed.  Pick up or print another copy if necessary.

When you arrive for 9th hour, sign the time in the study hall log book.  Sign out if you leave for another class.  You do not need to sign out at the end of the day.

If you need to see another teacher during 9th hour:

The consequence for not checking in with me 9th hour if I request to see you is detention.

I'm going to miss class for a sporting event, field trip, or school activity.

What should I do?

When you are at sporting activities, field trips, and other school activities, you are considered to be in school, not absent.  Sometimes the sponsoring teacher will give you an advanced make up slip to take to all of your teachers for a signature.

This is considered to be an in-school excused absence and therefore you do not get "make up time" to complete assignments.  Your work is expected when you return as if you had attended class or it will be considered late and you will be expected to stay for 9th hour and lose open campus for a day.

1)  Talk to your teacher before the class you will miss.  Before school, lunch time, between classes ....

2) Turn in any homework that will be due in class before leaving.

3)  Request any handouts that will be given out during class.

4)  Before the next class period, go online to Goggle classroom to double check what has been missed.

Communication is the key.

I missed school because I was sick or had some other unplanned thing happen that made me miss class.  What should I do?

1)  Go online to Google classroom and see what you missed.

2)  Print or pick up a copy of any handouts posted on Google classroom.

3)  Finish the work and turn it in.

4) On the day you return, go around school and visit with the teachers whose classes you missed to pick up handouts or visit about what was covered in class.

5) If you missed only one or two periods for an appointment, use 9th hour to check with the teachers that you missed that day and turn in the work that was due during the periods that you missed.

Make up work from unplanned absences is allowed two days before it is considered late and 9th hour is assigned (2 days = the day you returned plus one more).  Check the student handbook for make up time allotment if more than one day is missed.

I will be out of school for an extended period of time (vacation, medical leave).  What should I do?

1)  Go to each of your teachers in advance if possible and ask what they would like you to do.  Most will tell you to follow Google classroom for posted assignments.  It is often helpful to use an advanced make up slip from the office to have your teachers help you plan for completion of assigned tasks.

2)  Refer to the student handbook for the allowed make up time for extended absence.

Having as much of the work completed as possible when you return will help prevent you from feeling overwhelmed by the amount of old work added to the work being expected for current class activities.

I want to retake a test for a physical science class.  What should I do?

1)  Come in to the teacher within one day of receiving your scores to sign up.  You may sign up before school, after school, or if 9th hour study hall is available - during 9th period study hall on the sign up day.

2) Make sure that you have completed ALL class practice guides (homework).  ALL daily practice guides (homework) must be submitted before you may interview.  You may check the records book to see if you are up to date.

3)  Choose 1 or 2 targets to retest.  Two targets per cycle are the maximum allowed.  You are only allowed to retest a target once so choose wisely.

4)  Get the required two forms from the supply box or print them from these hot links.

A.  Retake Process Form (Parent Signature, Activities, Teacher Signature)

B.  Test Evaluation Form

5)  Sign up for an interview slot. Record your interview time slot on your Retake Process Form.

6)  Ask for your test folder and go through your test.  Use the Test Evaluation Form to evaluate your missed questions.  Test folders are only available on the sign up days.  Give your folder back before leaving.  Test folders are not allowed out of the room.

7)  Read the Retake Process Form carefully.

8)  Go online and print a Retake Activities List from the unit page on this website.

9)  Attend 9th hour study hall during the week of study.  Make appointments for morning time if you will miss 9th period study hall time for other obligations.

10) Complete the assigned activities and get your parent signature.

11)  Attend your interview.  Bring all your work evidence, three forms (retake process form, test evaluation form, printout of tasks), and parent signature.

Arrive early for your interview.  The interviewer may be able to slide you in at an earlier time.

If you determine that you will not be ready for interview by your slot time, either reschedule for a later time or let the teacher know that you will not be able to retest.  If you only have time to do one set of activities to retest on target, you may interview for only one target. It is better to be well prepared for one target than to be poorly prepared for two.  You only get one retake chance per target.  You may interview for the single target you are ready for, if you wish.

It is rude to miss an interview without letting the interviewer know in advance.  They may be waiting for you.  In the job world, this will cost you the job and perhaps even further consideration for other jobs in the future.

12)  If the teacher is convinced you are ready for a retest, you will receive the teacher's signature on your Retake Process Form.  Find out when the retest will occur and record it on your Retake Process Form.  If the teacher does not feel that you are ready for the retest, he/she will not allow the retake.

The retake process states that testing should occur within five days of receiving your score.  Test dates are usually scheduled for a day when there is 9th hour.  This allows everyone to have a quiet retest session.

13) At the time of the retake testing, trade your packet of forms, work, and signatures for a test.
