Physics Unit 06
Vibrations and Waves
Targets:
Physics Target 06 - 01 I can describe wave phenomena graphically and mathematically.
Physics Target 06 - 02 I can describe simple harmonic motion graphically and mathematically.
Text Objectives:
6.1 Identify the conditions of simple harmonic motion.
6.2 Calculate the spring force using Hooke’s Law.
6.3 Relate a drawing of a sine curve to the crest, trough, amplitude, and wavelength of a wave.
6.4 Calculate frequency and period of a wave and pendulum motion.
6.5 Describe wave motion.
6.6 Describe factors that affect the speed of a wave.
6.7 Distinguish between transverse waves and longitudinal waves.
6.8 Distinguish between constructive and destructive interference.
6.9 Describe how a standing wave occurs.
6.10 Describe the Doppler effect for sound and relate it to the blue and redshifts for light.
