Dr. Kaquanta Barlow is a current fellow in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UC David Medical Center. Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, she attended medical school at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, and residency at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Dr. Barlow’s professional goal is to become a Neonatologist and to address racial disparities in the NICU setting.







Shenell Reynolds, DO

Dr. Shenell Reynolds is currently a Neonatal Perinatal Medicine Fellow at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She is a proud HBCU alum who received her undergraduate degree from Alabama State University before completing medical school at VCOM in Auburn, AL. She then moved to North Carolina where she completed her general pediatrics residency followed by a year as chief resident at UNC. She is a former very preterm infant whose research interests include evaluating the role that social determinants of health and race play in neonatal outcomes and assessing ways to make an impact on neonatal health disparities through medical education and simulation. She strives for a future that encompasses her passions for medical education, mentorship, and advocacy as she works to find ways to improve outcomes for underserved populations.

Uchenna Anani, MD

Dr. Anani is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology and Core Faculty at the Center for Biomedical Ethics & Society at Vanderbilt University. She completed medical school at Howard University College of Medicine, pediatric residency at University of Michigan, and fellowship at Vanderbilt. She has published on antenatal counseling and trauma informed care in bioethics, and ultimately plans to evaluate the intersection between bioethics and health equity within parent/provider communication and bedside counseling through mixed methods and qualitative research. Dr. Anani resides as the chair for her hospital’s NICU Health Equity Committee as well as the DEI officer for her division. She is most passionate about DEI mentorship, workforce diversity, and health disparities education. She hopes to expand upon this passion through her role as a senior faculty lead on the NJC subcommittee on Medical Education & Workforce Diversity.

Elizabeth Bonachea, MD

Dr. Bonachea serves as the Vice Chair for Diversity & Inclusion of the Department of Pediatrics and Associate Division Chief for DEI in Neonatology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University. Her interests within DEI include the recruitment, retention, and development of a diverse pediatric workforce and fostering belonging in our learning environments.
