Neonatal Justice Collaborative

Promoting neonatal equity & justice through collaboration

February 2023

2023 - A year for equity

NJC has hit the ground running this year, continuing to virtually connect with our Neonatal Justice partners nationwide.

We held our general body meeting on January 17 on "Exploring different approaches of neonatal health equity leaders: QI, advocacy, research, and medical education." In addition to hearing why these leaders love their fields and what motivates them, these leaders shared some books, podcasts and papers that inspire them (linked below).

Our research subcommittee met on February 15 with Dr. Witt to discuss next steps for the work she conducted with Mia Malcom, Dr. Colson, and team. We had a robust discussion with various members of the neonatal community including parents, nurses, community partners, physicians, among others. We would love for you to join our next conversation!

We look forward to our Medical Education and Workforce Diversity subcommittee meeting on March 10. This will be the first session in their Mentorship Series and feature Dr. Lahia Yamane, Associate Professor, APD, and Assistant Dean of Diversity for GME at Stanford University. We hope this will be a great opportunity to learn from others in the community and grow together as we “move the needle” within health equity education and workforce diversity. Join their subcommittee to receive the Zoom link and join the discussion.

Join their next meeting on 3/10/23 for their first Mentorship series talk. The goal of this lecture series is to provide a venue to discuss anything from works-in-progress to current programs, advocacy work, curricula, and scholarship  focused on the shared mission of expanding health equity education, mentorship, and the promotion of workforce diversity within neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatrics. If you have a project, program or works-in-progress within these areas that you would like to present, please reach out to our listserv (diversity@neojusticecollab.com) or our subcommittee leadership.  We especially encourage any trainees to present and/or attend, so please reach out.
