Neonatal Justice Collaborative
Promoting neonatal equity & justice through collaboration
December 2022
Announcing our new subcommittee: QI
It’s with great pleasure that we introduce the newly formed NJC QI subcommittee! Several internal and external meetings have been held by NJC leadership to conceptualize the QI subcommittee, specifically identifying gaps or niches NJC can fill to synergize and not compete with existing collaborations including VON and CPQCC.
The gap identified is educating NICUs on Equity Focused Quality Improvement (EFQI). Therefore our goal is to facilitate learning, likely by creating and presenting EF-QI education modules at national conferences as workshops.
Our inaugural QI subcommittee leaders include:
Senior Leaders - Susan Hwang (U Colorado), Roopali Bapat (Nationwide Children's), & Animesh Sabnis (UCLA)
Junior Leaders - Gaby Cordova Ramos (BMC) & Nick Heitkamp (EVMS)
We hope that with our leadership, more neonatal providers will feel confident in adopting EFQI in their respective hospitals. If you’re interested in joining the QI subcommittee in their efforts, please indicate your interest below.

Advocacy + Policy
This committee is led by Drs. Diana Montoya- Williams, Ololade Okito, Stephen Patrick, and Valencia Walker.
The subcommittee met in June is working looking for individuals interested in writing or mentoring a trainee to write regional or national op-eds for advocacy on important issues related to neonatal justice. Given that many are new to the op-ed world, the policy and advocacy team is happy to help support you.
