Wrong IP Address Assigned (APIPA / 169.254.x.x)

Problem
The computer receives an automatic private IP address instead of a valid network address, indicating it couldn't reach a DHCP server.

Symptoms

• IP address begins with 169.254.

• No internet or network access.

• "Limited connectivity" or "No internet, secured" message.

Possible Causes

• DHCP server unreachable or down.

• Network cable or Wi-Fi connection issue preventing DHCP communication.

• Router DHCP service disabled.

• Network adapter configuration error.

Resolution

Step 1
Restart the computer and router.

Check that the network cable or Wi-Fi connection is active.

Run ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew in Command Prompt.

Step 4
Verify DHCP is enabled on the router.

Restart the network adapter.
