This author sold over a Million copies in 2025
Strategy 1: Blogs
Strategy 2: Pinterest
Strategy 3: Storytelling Email Marketing
Strategy 4: LinkedIn
Strategy 5: Youtube
Strategy 6: TikTok
This author sells over 15,000 copies every month.
And that’s just from one of her book series, My Superpower Books.
I got curious about her marketing strategies and decided to dig deeper into how she does it.
Alicia Ortego published her first children's book in the series, Kindness is My Superpower, in 2020.
Now, her series has 10 books.
Her books have achieved:
-#1 Amazon Bestseller in Children’s Books on Tolerance (UK)
-#1 Amazon Bestseller in Children’s Books on Manners (UK)
Here are 6 marketing strategies she uses:
STRATEGY #1: BLOGS
Alicia's books teach kids valuable lessons about:
-Emotional intelligence
-Personal growth
-Empathy
Her blogs target parents, teachers, and caregivers looking for ways to teach these lessons to their kids.
She then subtly recommends her books or worksheets in her blog posts.
For example, in her article “10 Most Creative Reading Nook Ideas for Children,” she does a few smart things:
1/ At the bottom of the post, she offers her books’ box set at a discount.
2/ She links to other blog articles where she eventually suggests her books or worksheets. In this case, she linked to an article about Reward Charts and suggested her own reward charts.
She also included a link to a quiz to help readers see if her books are a good fit for them.
This is a clever strategy because even if readers don’t buy her books, they end up with a useful worksheet, which helps build her reputation as a helpful resource and keeps her brand top-of-mind.
STRATEGY #2: QUORA
This is her most creative strategy in my opinion.
She answers parenting questions on Quora that relate to her book topics.
Her answers are genuinely helpful, like advice from a professional coach, and at the bottom, she recommends her blog posts or worksheets.
This has helped her build true fans on the platform.
Additionally, she posts in Quora groups whenever a new book is released and has optimized her Quora profile so anyone who views it can see her blogs and books on Amazon.
STRATEGY #3: MAILING LIST
She has a mailing list. While I haven't received any emails, I'd guess she sends out offers or new releases.
She builds her mailing list through the freebies section on her website, offering worksheets in exchange for email sign-ups.
Her worksheets are based on the values and lessons from her books.
For example, her "Simple Acts of Kindness Ideas" worksheet, based on her book “Kindness is My Superpower”, gives ideas to kids on how to be kind to others.
STRATEGY #4: HER YOUTUBE CHANNEL
Alicia uses her YouTube channel to post read-alouds of her books and fun children's craft videos.
What's really cool is how she ties her craft videos to her books.
For example, in one video, she makes a paper rocket using a toilet paper roll, inspired by her book “Confidence is My Superpower.”
She links to the book on Amazon in the video description.
This video ended up getting 22,000 views.
STRATEGY #5: READ ALOUD CHANNELS
Her books get a ton of attention on YouTube, with millions of views.
Other than the read-alouds on her own YouTube channel, several read-aloud channels feature her books and link to them on Amazon for viewers to purchase.
STRATEGY #6: SOCIAL MEDIA
Alicia is super active on social media.
Her Facebook page for example is all about her work as an author.
She shares tips related to the themes of her books that are useful for parents, teachers, and caregivers.
She often links to her blog posts, which go into more detail about the tips she shares on social media.
She also shares updates about her books, including new releases, promotions, and events.
Additionally, Alicia posts engaging content about:
-Her writing process
-Insights into her characters
-Interactions with her readers
Her page is a great way for her to connect with her audience and promote her books.
One thing's for sure, Alicia is super creative when it comes to marketing her books and building her brand.

This author went from selling just a few hundred copies to millions!
Here is how she does it...
Diane Alber is an author-illustrator who started publishing children's books in 2017, according to Amazon.
Her first big hit was "I'm NOT just a Scribble...."
Since then, she’s published over 100 titles on Amazon.
Most of her books focus on social and emotional learning.
I spent the week analyzing her marketing strategies.
Here is what I found out:
𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 #1: 𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗧𝘂𝗯𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹
Diane’s YouTube game is strong, she’s got 104k subscribers and a total of 19 million views.
She posts everything from read-alouds of her books to behind-the-scenes footage.
But her most popular videos are the animated ones based on her books.
These animations have been pulling in millions of views, which has been great for promoting her books.
Here’s her strategy:
1/ She finds the main theme of her book.
2/ She creates content around that theme—like an animated video or a song with the book's characters.
3/ She posts it on YouTube.
For example, to promote her “A Little SPOT of Emotion 8 Book Box Set,” she made an animated musical and an animated educational series that help kids understand and express their feelings, featuring a character from her books named Scribble Spot.
To promote her books, Diane either featured her book and website at the video's start or included a purchase link in the description.
These videos hit around 8 million views in total!
They work so well because:
-They’re catchy and relatable, so people are more likely to share them.
-They boost Diane’s "SPOT" series brand and make people interested in all her books.
𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 #2: 𝗨𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱-𝗔𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀
Diane also gets her books out there by teaming up with other read-aloud YouTube channels.
Many of these videos rack up hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of views.
This is a smart move in my opinion.
Why?
Because she gets more exposure and benefits from the influence of other creators.
And remember, marketing is all about the numbers.
The more people see your products, the higher your chances of making a sale.
𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 #3: 𝗧𝗶𝗸𝗧𝗼𝗸
Diane jumped on TikTok in 2019.
She shares a mix of content, like:
-Behind-the-scenes glimpses
-Animated shorts with her book characters
-Updates about new releases
Her animated short form videos, just like the ones on YouTube, go viral very often.
Because they teach kids how to handle emotions in a fun and cute way.
These videos use consistent visuals and feature the same beloved characters and style, making it easy to recognize them as hers.
This is a great example of effective branding.
To turn her TikTok fans into buyers, she adds a link to her website in her bio.
Diane also uses TikTok to promote her animated music videos on YouTube.
𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 #4: 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁
Diane really gets how important it is to build a mailing list.
Her approach to collecting emails isn’t totally unique, but it seems to be working well.
When you visit her website, a popup pops up offering a 10% discount on your first purchase.
Once you sign up, you'll get an email with the discount code, but it’s only good for 72 hours.
This creates a sense of urgency that makes you want to act fast.
She also adds a personal touch in the email by mentioning she’s a mom of two who gets the challenge of raising kids and teaching them about their emotions.
Why does she do this?
It’s simple, she wants to make her message more relatable and trustworthy.
And that’s a wrap for this post.
