Kidlit Author Advice on Library circulation
As an author and former librarian, I wanted to take a minute to share a marketing tip that could be very beneficial to your career as an author.
Getting one's book into a library is a wonderful marketing strategy. It gives you and your books limitless exposure and opens you up to numerous reviews, opportunities, and eyes. Consider the investment of donating your book to libraries both public and within schools. Also, know that you can call up your local library or go online to request your book or a fellow authors to be purchased by your local library. While the norm is most public libraries will only allow residents of that county to request a purchase for a book. There are exceptions.
Free tip: Cause I know how challenging it can be as a new author and I want you to succeed. One of the largest and best libraries in the US is the San Diego Library. You can actually hop online and request your book or anothers for purchase without being a resident. It doesn't guarantee your book will be bought, but what's the best thing that could happen?
Once your book is in a library, the circulation of it is endless, even after you're gone. Every library has different rules. Here's my proposal...I, like many authors, would like to see my book in more libraries worldwide, but I can't do it alone. I currently have two libraries in my area in Utah, USA, where I am able to request books to be purchased. My libraries have no limits of suggestions per month as some do. If you have a quality book with a written spine that has been cataloged in the Library of Congress, and would like your book available in Utah libraries, let's talk! PM me, and let's help each other! - Jennifer Decker
