What do you think is a major concern when it comes to homeschooling?
“Am I doing enough?”
Abigail Beirise Moletti yes, definitely this!
Also, “what if I miss something important?”
For homeschoolers in general or society? Am I cut out for this? For society, will that child be academically ready for college or career?
Rebekah I think you’re right. I also see society concerned with socialization.
Homeschool Sanity I actually see that less the past couple years. Since ppl in general did not socialize and so many more ppl started homeschooling. I think it was eye opening how much homeschoolers do in general. And also, what happens when their o… See more
Will my kids have enough human interaction?
Parent of multiple kids
I think when people look at it from the outside it would be: socialization, education (as in learning what they need to be) and patients.
That’s what I’ve been told anyway.
Which is kinda funny because to me the ‘actual’ issues end up being more like: educational (are they learning enough), time management, burn out.
Adria So true! It’s not what people think the struggles will be.
Mom's don't want to fail their kids we want to make sure we're teaching our children what they need in life.
Hester For sure. We focus on teaching, but I think parents with kids in traditional school have similar concerns.

Plays puzzles - visual discrimination - reading skill
Puts toys away - Classification, organization and sorting - Math and science skill

What is family dynamics ? Nature, Artsy, Reading/Library? take what you do and step it up . BE more intentional. That is learning. As kids grow older, integrate more complexity.

Thank you for answering my question!! I'm in the classroom currently, but hoping to stay home with my 11 year old.
There are some on line school where you can teach from home. My friend is doing that with her teaching degree and had her children home with her. Also a business call Melalueca could help also.
I'm currently a public school teacher looking to be able to homeschool my 11 year old. Any suggestions on how to homeschool and have time to still earn some type of an income?
One of the great things about homeschooling is the flexibility! It doesn't matter what time of day you're homeschooling, so it's possible to adjust homeschooling hours to fit your schedule. For example, evening, between shifts, or weekends. You can als… See more

Awesome thank you! I am looking forward to this one. I have elementary age students 7,8,10(almost eleven) but have been doing some research on those questions.
Michelle Smith-Wei - I feel you! I was always told I am my kids best advocate as parent and now as his teacher. He has ADHD too and other issues..
Love your positivity, thank you!
Question: Best way to homeschool your 2nd grader when you also have a 4 year old (who needs to learn through play). Trying to avoid technology.
My son always likes to do his own things...play and gets frustrated when hid older sister is doing school
Idaho, homeschooling 2 9 and 11, one is very independent and one very much one on one
It's difficult when adults do that too...
Thank you for your help! Could you please recommend me where to buy the school materials like Math, Language books, etc? How to encourage to my child to do homeschooling? Thank you

My kids seem to be behind in writing and reading. They are in kindergarten and first grade. Any suggestions for children whoay also have adhd?
My four year old daughter will be starting kindergarten this fall. What do I need to teach her now to prepare her for that?
As I tried to advocate for my son all teachers and guidance counselors and even the principal looked at me and fell on deaf ears And they looked at me like I was just an upset mother
Although most states don't require that level of tracking is there a reason it would benefit to do so? For instance, IF circumstances were to change in the future and enrolling in a traditional school was necessary?
Yes, a lot of research out about the benefits of time outdoors, and kids doing hands on experiences. Also, there is not solid research to support “earlier is better” for teaching reading. Love your wisdom and encouragement you offer to us! Thanks!
Any tips on preparing for the transition from elementary to middle school work?
With learn through play being so important, do you recommend having a curriculum in kinder? We will start kinder in the fall and I am not planning on doing much sit down learning, is that advised?
Can you homeschool other children as well? I have some friends who work and would like me to homeschool their kids while they are at work. I’m in TX.

My son has a reading comprehension issue and ADHD. No teachers have been able to properly help him
Many students who struggle with reading comprehension are either struggling with decoding and fluency or making a picture/movie in the mind while reading (visualizing). You may want to get a reading assessment.
Michelle Smith-Wei look into science of reading, I’ve found it brilliant for comprehension. But this is very typical for children with ASD/ADHD

My daughter is about to turn 4 what is a good curriculum play based subject?
I very much dislike the "no child left behind" rule of public schools
Can I use Costco grade level books for my son? They are at "state level".
You can use any materials, games, DVD’s, curricula, hands on experiences….

Thanks! I'm just concerned it might not meet state guidelines.
Michelle Smith-Wei I worry about that too, especially as I have a child who isn’t able to do what the state expects.
My son said we will get up a little later and go "troll" the public school! Hes a jokester. Hes excited to start homeschooling!
My son likes to "rush" through stuff as opposed to having to wait for 20 plus kids in a class to finish. I can't wait to start!
I have seen some families have a tutor for their Kids for one or two subjects. Is that recommended or functional?

Can homeschooled kids fo to summer camp? Piscataway Summer Camp for the last 4 years. Pulling my son out of school if they can.
My husband is Chinese. I'd love for him to learn Mandarin!
My husband wants to put my son in summer camp. Im worried if I pull him he can't go.
Always great advice from Vicky - from both of you ladies!
I know you have a special needs live coming up, but, with a child with significant learning disabilities (Down syndrome), am I required to teach everything my state asks for?
Yes, it can! I was homeschooled and took Rosetta Stone - Chinese (Mandarin) for homeschool

Hi from Namibia Africa homeschooling for 25 years founded the Homeschool Association of Namibia
Interview with Jennifer Cook DeRosa - Homeschool for Credit - to build a Facebook community
Create a group instead of a page to foster community feel.
Volunteers are hard to find.
Everyone likes to be paid for managing the group. Think of contractual agreements if needed.
Make it a resource rich environment.
Lots of files, pictures links
Make it about their needs - Create content on what the homeschool community might be looking for.
Put yourself in their shoes, especially younger families who want to do STEM. Older families might outsource it.
Do not promote sale .
Teach something and provide a book link for purchase
Do workshops. Charge live attendees. Make it free for replays
Think Storage
FB will cap storage. Sort everything in cloud.
Members will share. Make content sharable
Think Privacy
If children are involved, u will need a media release form.

I am a homeschool mom with over 8 years of experience using Project Based Learning and STEM.
CHAP is a practical and resourceful platform for homeschoolers in our state. I was wondering if I could do a talk on the importance of elementary STEM in the homeschool curriculum and bring my integrated program to the event.
My homeschooler has done several community projects using STEM and had the opportunity to give a TED X talk, be featured by Good Morning Philly, Parade Magazine, Maker Faire Magazine and appear on the Steve Harvey Show. I will be very eager to share how children and their families can use STEM to solve problems in their communities and benefit from the rich experience of collaborating with diverse individuals who will support their ideas.

TSHC is a practical and resourceful platform for homeschoolers in the USA and its commendable how you bring so many families together and support their learning journey. I was wondering if I could do a online talk on the importance of elementary STEM in the homeschool curriculum and share FREE resources that can be used by families to create a rich STEM learning environment.
I know your speaker events are booked, however if you are doing any interviews online to promote the event, I would love the opportunity to share what's worked for us.
