Internal Migration the movement of people temporarily or permanently within parts of a country.
Sea Change movement of people from major cities to live near the coast to achieve a change of lifestyle.

Sydney in the 1970's!
Note the differences from then to now in terms of house prices, land prices & income.
Create a mind map of the typical reasons for internal migration:
Health and Lifestyle
Education
Housing
Affordability
Work
Family
Changes to the area
Class Reading
Read each scenario and research suitable towns or locations in Australia where these individuals or families could move. Consider factors such as employment opportunities, lifestyle, community facilities, cost of living, and environment.
In your workbooks write a short paragraph explaining your choice for each scenario and why it would be a good fit for them. Give reasons for your choice.
Some of the factors that have contributed to where people have settled over time are water availability, the shape and productivity of the land, climatic factors, land ownership, accessibility and government policy. Advances in technology have opened more areas to settlement over time.
Analyse the FIFO settlements shown in the map below.
What is being mined in these locations?
Suggest reasons why the workers don't live in the FIFO settlement permanently.
If you had to move to another location within New South Wales, which location would you choose and why? Justify (give reasons) your answer.
So… you got to the end of year 12 and have decided to take a gap year before commencing university. You have decided that you want to see much of our country and have chosen to travel around the country following the harvest seasons to gain short term employment to pay for your travel. This might include seasonal work like picking fruit, working on a fishing boat, at a marina in the Whitsunday Islands or finishing a season in the ski fields.
Your task is to plan and design a one year working holiday adventure in Australia. You’ll present your plan by constructing your tour through ‘Google Mymaps’. A tutorial on how to use the program can be found to the below this text. You should include photos of your destination and any other relevant graphics that will help explain your tour.

From your starting point (your home), include a picture of the van and explain why you bought that one
In your google tour, you will place pins at each location you visit. Deciding on where to go and when to go will require you to be very organised with your planning. Start by viewing all of the links below to help make these decisions. The Google Mymaps program allows you to add text. In the text box, you are to record the following information:
Your locations must be in order from start to finish in which your fruit picking year would be conducted. You can use the links below to help you make these decisions.
The months available for work in the towns you would visit.
The names of the towns where the harvests are taking place.
The name of the crop you would pick at each location.
Interesting sites you would see along the way.
Most Importantly, report on the following likely observations on your trip in the text box within the program:
You must make some kind of reference to how the local economy of towns you visit would be either better or worse off as a result of this labour migration?
You must make some kind of reference to how the local environment you would visit be either impacted positively or negatively as a result of this labour migration?
You must make some kind of reference to how the local society of towns you would visit be impacted positively or negatively as a result of this labour migration?
Once you have finished, you are to show your tour to your teacher.
