Our Words.

March is spring, the season of new beginnings in tradition.

After three years, the epidemic prevention has finally come to an end, and the society seems to be back to the bustle it was three years ago. However, we all know how difficult it has been in the past three years, but is spring in Macao really coming?

Spring may have another meaning. It is a season of warming and cold. The dried leaves still in the park, and the birds have not yet migrated. Spring is  a transitional period to look back at the past and then gear up. Therefore, spring does not mean forgetting, but brings the experiences and lessons of the past difficult season to face the next stage.

This year's "Macao Films and Videos Panorama" screened a total of 26 local works, of which 10 came from the Macao Cultural Centre's “Local View Power" film shooting subsidy program, another 12 were selected from the open call locally, and 4 more It is recommended by four tertiary institutions in Macau (University of Macao, Macao Polytechnic University, Macao University of Science and Technology, University of Saint Joseph Macao). There is a state of transition and adaptation in the subject matter of the works, whether it is still a loop in the epidemic effect, or various traumas in the family or growth, facing and looking back is sometimes the first step in healing.  And refocusing on Macao’s ecological development and nature also let us know how to slow down and rethink from another angle.  In addition to local works, the film festival also brings local audiences and filmmakers 11 outstanding works from Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.  Local creators can explore the vision and level of young creators in Chinese-speaking regions, and then look back at own self.

This year will continue to invite veteran Hong Kong film critic Joyce Yang to serve as the first-round selection jury, and select the best 12 works from nearly 40 works to be shortlisted for public screening.  Compete for the “Grand Jury Award" together with the works subsidised by this year's “Local View Power".  Influential film festivals’ key figures are invited to serve as judges, including Song Wen, founder of FIRST International Film Festival in Xining, China, Kattie Fan, program director of ifva Hong Kong, and Esther Chen, the curator of Taiwan Golden Harvest Award, allows local works to receive professional advices and praises.

This year, there will also be a number of post-screening discussions, allowing local filmmakers to communicate with the audience.  At the same time, the audience can take action to support, vote for their favourite works, and select the “Audience Choice Award”.

In this spring, we invite you to take a look at the perspective of local filmmakers, and see how they recorded the past challenges, how to regain their rhythm and warming up, and let the heavy experiences of the past become our future power.

See you at MFVP!
