I have included the advance placement (AP)exam data for all of the AP courses offered at Apple Valley High School for 2017-18 school year as well as a communication email that went out to all teachers.
My role in this experience was a participant. We analyzed how many students participated in each course, how many took the test, and how well sections scored.
This experience aligns with Monitoring Student Learning competency because I demonstrated the ability to meet the enrichment, remediation, and special education needs of all students. The AP exam measures students achievement in the college level course. These scores are used by colleges and universities to determine a college credit.
As a future principal, I learned that we want to create opportunities for all students to experience rigoruous instruction and learning opportunities. AP courses need to continue to be analyzed with an academic lens as well as an equity lens. Lastly, I learned if a course is fading out by student enrollment then that needs to be taken into account. Also, if a course like AP Computer Pincipal is growing and is attracting more students of color and females, then that needs to be taken seriously by creating more courses to meet student interest.
I have included District 196 2018-19 District Achievement Goals and analysis of the districts gap focused groups in alignment to their Worlds Best Workforce (WBWF) goals.
My role in this experience was a participant in data analysis as well as analysis of the system wide approaches district 196 has to support their gap focused goal around increasing student ACT scores.
This experience aligns with Monitoring Student Learning competency because I demonstrated an understanding of student guidance systems and auxiliary services.
As a future principal, I learned that there must be continuous analysis and monitoring of the districts strategic goals. Within the WBWF plan, the district has created a narrative of system support aligned from K-12 to support their goals that include systems and services available that needs to be monitored and measured as well.
I have included my Minnesota Board of School Administration cirtificate as well as a few slides from MDE that describe my role on the data review committee.
My role in this experience was a participant. I was requested to make my best judement based on my knowledge as an educator in Minnestoa as well as my experiences on 430 testing items.
I focused on mainly on if items are culturally relevant to our students of color. I analyzed the following as well:
This experience aligns with Monitoring Student Learning competency because I demonstrated the ability to create a culture that fosters a community of learners.
As a future principal, I learned that in order to create change in larger system issues you must participate in these larger projects. The culture behind student expectations is inaccurate and it is apart of my mission in education to continue to help foster a more accurate understanding of learning for our students of color.
