John 5:39-40
Jesus is Scripture
39You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, 40yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
Luke 4:14-21
Jesus Fulfills Scripture
14Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.
16He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed,
19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
20Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
Luke 24:44-48
Jesus Fulfills Scripture
44He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."
45Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things.
Luke 11:29-32
Jonah's Link to Jesus
29As the crowds increased, Jesus said, "This is a wicked generation. It asks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. 30For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom, and now one greater than Solomon is here. 32The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.
Jesus is the Bible...Before He came to earth, He is what the authors of the Old Testament Scripture wrote about...When He came to earth He taught about God the Father, repentance of sin, and forgiveness of sins...After He dies, He returns three days later, and with the sign of Jonah, fulfills the Old Testament...The sign of Jonah, proves He is our Messiah...For those who believe in Him, we have all His healing miracles, His miracles over nature, and all His teachings...For those who do not believe, Jesus tells us they have the sign of Jonah...Jesus would be gone, like Jonah for three days...Jesus would resurrect and return to life and to earth for forty days...
Jesus teaches us that He is our Scripture...He specifically says the Scriptures testify about Him...Then He tells us, when He was on earth, and preached one of His first sermons in Luke, He has fulfilled the Scripture of Isaiah (Isaiah 61:1,2)...Then after He resurrects, He tells us that everything in our Old Testament, is written about Him in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms, and had to be fulfilled...The Messiah will suffer, He would rise from the dead on the third day (the sign for the unbeliever), and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached to all nations His name, beginning in Jerusalem and then to all nations...The disciples are witnesses of all these things...
When we read the Bible, we must realize it is about Him...Jesus is wrote about in the Old Testament...Moses wrote about Him, Isaiah wrote about Him...The Book of Jonah is a sign of God about Jesus...Throughout the Bible is history, wisdom, and prophets writing stories...These stories are directed about a Man, a Divine Man...The Bible is about a plan, God's plan...God created man...We fell, and rebelled against Him with our sin...He gives us laws, through His first prophet Moses...The Law of Moses shows us there is a right and there is a wrong...When we break one, we sin...God sent His prophets, and for thousand of years, tries to teach us through these laws that we are to do right, and not wrong...We are to be moral...We are to love Him, and love our neighbor...God, is the Father, and hundred of years later, has an Immaculate birth of a Son, with a virgin...The Son taught us repentance and forgiveness, and to center our lives on the Father...We are to love our Father and love our neighbor...No one on earth, ever taught more about the Father, and having Him involved in everything we do...The Bible is about a Father and His Son...
