Matthew 6:19-21
Treasures in Heaven
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 8:18-22
No Place to Lay His Head
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
21 Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
22 But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
Luke 22:42
Jesus Prays Before His Arrest
42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."
What would you think of One who had no place to lay His head and sleep?...Today those who do not have a home or a place to go at the end of the day are called homeless...And there was once a Man who was in a sense homeless and traveled from village to village...He taught others about God and life and the eternities of things to come...And by living the way He lived, we can see that He completely relied on God...He did not at all worry about His next meal or where He might sleep that night...He was the Son of God and He trusted that His Father would take care of Him...
Now this is very hard to do, I think...His mentality was different than ours...He was so close to God and to heaven that He knew that He that God's will would get done and trusted that it would...We seem to trust in jobs and money, while He trusted in those treasures of heaven and His Father...And even in His darkest hours, He knew that God's will would in the end get done...And thus He prayed that God's will be done...
