Response is the backbone of the LSPS, whilst also being one of its most diverse units. Members of Response are given many opportunities for personal development and progression, ranging from exclusive specialised trainings to the ability to join specialised response teams.
Response’s general duties include responding to emergency 999 calls and supporting LSPS operations / major incidents.
Unlike other units, response officers are given the opportunity to:
Undergo sub-division trainings in NPAS, DSU, PSU and MPO simultaneously (2 weeks after PC)
Undergo further training such as Advanced Driver (1 week after PC)
Ability to undergo FTOC Training (2 weeks after PC)
Ability to join response sub units such as Rural Crime Patrol Team and Initial Investigation Team (1 week after PC)
Hold multiple trainings in multiple specialisations at the same time
To be able to transfer out of Response you must:
• Have training in NPAS or DSU,
• Have training in MPO,
• Be an Advanced Driver,
• Be IIT Trained (if you want to move to CID),
• Be trained in PSU basic,
• Be in Response for at least 30 days.
You may not transfer units out of Response until ALL of these conditions are met however; for those wishing to transfer into CID the Advanced Driver training is not required, this is due to CID not carrying such driving levels or standards & not wishing to put the trainers through, what may be perceived to be, a frivolous training. And for those wishing to transfer to Firearms, PSU training is not needed - same logic and reasoning follows this also.
The Advance Driver Team is tasked in a wide range of traffic related situations from basic traffic enforcement and pursuits, to convoys and traffic checkpoints. The team serves as a pathway into the Roads Policing Unit. As an Advanced driver your main purposes are; supporting pursuits, traffic enforcement, supporting operations and to lead pursuits when RPU assets are not available (excluding firearms-related pursuits).
