Torker “Cathy Hanna – Heart Throb” Shirt

This T-shirt produced by Torker BMX celebrates one of the most recognizable personalities from the early years of BMX racing—Cathy Hanna. During the BMX boom of the late 1970s and early 1980s, Hanna became widely known through magazine features, race appearances, and promotional events that helped introduce BMX culture to a growing audience.

The design references Hanna’s famous BMX Action Magazine “Hot Shot” photograph, which helped cement her status as a fan favorite during the golden era of BMX publishing. The nickname “Heart Throb,” associated with Hanna during this period, reflects both her popularity within the BMX community and the magazine-driven culture that helped build rider personalities into recognizable icons.

While many remember Hanna for her media presence, she was also a dedicated participant in BMX racing and a supporter of the sport throughout its early development. Riders like Hanna helped expand the reach of BMX culture by appearing in magazines, advertisements, and public events that brought the sport to a wider audience.

Produced decades later as a tribute to her legacy and Hall of Fame recognition, this shirt celebrates Hanna’s role in BMX history and highlights the importance of women who helped shape the early BMX community. Artifacts such as this help document the cultural side of BMX racing, where personality, style, and media presence played an important role in the sport’s rapid growth during the 1980s.
