This document establishes the official artifact numbering standard used throughout the Lititz BMX Archive & Inventory. Each physical artifact receives a permanent, non-descriptive identifier using the standardized YY.NNNN format, providing a consistent reference across inventory records, archive pages, media, educational resources, and future publications.
The standard preserves long-term stability by ensuring artifact numbers remain permanent regardless of ownership changes, collection growth, revised historical research, or website reorganization. Sequential numbering, leading zeros, and retired identifiers provide a scalable cataloging system designed for long-term archival preservation.
The numbering standard has been implemented throughout the existing Lititz BMX artifact catalog and serves as the foundation for inventory management, website references, QR code integration, media production, and future archive expansion.
