DIRTWERX 24" Cruiser Prototype Frame and Fork

This DIRTWERX 24-inch cruiser prototype frame and fork represents an experimental BMX racing design developed during a period when builders were exploring new geometries, materials, and ride characteristics for cruiser-class racing. Cruiser BMX bikes, which use 24-inch wheels, became popular in competitive racing as riders sought greater stability and speed on larger tracks while still maintaining the maneuverability associated with traditional 20-inch BMX bikes.

The prototype was developed under the direction of BMX pioneer Harry Leary, who founded DIRTWERX in the mid-1990s after years of involvement in BMX racing, team management, and product development. Leary launched the DIRTWERX brand with the goal of producing rider-focused BMX equipment built from real racing experience. His designs emphasized durability, balanced geometry, and practical performance for racers rather than purely cosmetic features.

Prototype frames such as this were typically produced in very limited numbers, often built to test geometry changes, frame materials, and handling characteristics before potential production runs. These early examples allowed riders and builders to evaluate how new design ideas performed on real race tracks. Because many prototypes were heavily used, modified, or discarded during development, relatively few survive as documented artifacts.
