Here are the most important things you need to know from this credentialing application guide, distilled into key points for someone applying to become a credentialed COMENSA coach.

Two Pathways

Pathway 1 (Credentialing) – You have the required formal training hours.
Pathway 2 (RPL) – You have coaching hours but not formal training; experience replaces training.

Common Requirements for Both Pathways

Copy of your ID.
Logbook of coaching hours (example downloadable).
Three essays on: Ethics & Code of Conduct, Diversity, One-year self-development plan.
Understand the Behavioural Standards Framework – you must pass an online questionnaire at 70% (two attempts allowed).
If applying for a higher credential: CPD must be up to date (24 points/year, including 4 supervision points).
Supervision is mandatory once you become credentialed.
Sign the right to appeal form.
Complete a self-reflection survey.
Attend a 40-minute online evaluation – you will coach an evaluator on a real situation.

Pathway 1 Only (Formal Training)

Training log summarising your formal coach training.
Your training certificates.

Pathway 2 Only (RPL)

Essay on difference between coaching, mentoring, and counselling.
Motivation of a training equivalent for each Behavioural Standard.
Your CV.
Your coaching profile/bio.
The coaching models you use.

The Application Process

Update your details online.
Complete SAQA information.
Read and acknowledge the Ethics Pledge.
Provide proof of CPD and supervision (if upgrading).
Pay invoice online.
Complete the 70% Behavioural Standards questionnaire.
Upload common documents + pathway-specific documents.
You are assigned two evaluators who contact you to book the 40-minute session.
One evaluator acts as your coachee with a real situation.
Evaluators send forms to Administrator, then to Moderator.
Log back in to complete the self-reflection form.
You are advised of result: Proficient (designation awarded, certificate online) or Not Yet Proficient.

Right to Appeal

If Not Yet Proficient, you may repeat the process once at no extra charge.
If still not proficient, you have the right to appeal (form downloadable).

Critical Warnings

You must complete each stage in full – progress is not saved if you leave mid-stage.
Excel documents must be converted to PDF before uploading.
