The LEAD-WELL project, an Erasmus+ initiative, aims to create "Digital stepping stones to well-being" for adults aged 18 to 55+. It addresses the need for individuals and professionals working with adults to develop skills for adapting to continuous changes in living, communicating, working, and learning, especially in the post-pandemic world. The project is structured around three main public-facing activities, supported by robust project management, all designed to promote well-being and lifelong learning.
The LEAD-WELL project demonstrates significant relevance to adult education by addressing the critical need for adults to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances in the post-pandemic world. The project recognizes that adults are now required to adapt quickly to evolving circumstances, such as the sharp shift towards digitalization and the increased prevalence of remote or hybrid work models, which directly impacts their well-being and work-life balance. For instance, the share of adults in the EU who worked from home significantly increased from 14.6% in 2019 to 24.4% in 2021, highlighting this pervasive shift.
Furthermore, the project aligns with the Council Resolution on a new European Agenda for Adult Learning 2021-2030, emphasizing that individuals who cultivate a lifelong learning mindset are better equipped to adapt to new situations and develop the necessary skills for full societal participation and personal development. The core motivation for the LEAD-WELL project also stems from the belief that adult education cannot truly succeed if it solely offers "educational programmes in the most basic meaning of the word" without acknowledging and addressing adults' well-being and mental health. A healthy adult is fundamentally viewed as a productive adult across all personal and professional endeavors.
The three partner organizations, despite operating in diverse cultural and social environments, have identified similar challenges in their extensive work with adults. These common observations underscore the pressing need for their organizations to provide opportunities for participants to develop adaptive skills in response to continuous global changes in living, communicating, and learning.
The project also takes into account specific national contexts regarding well-being:
In the Czech Republic, health and well-being are central to public policy, evidenced by a Strategic Framework for the Development of Health Care until 2030 and a National Mental Health Action Plan 2020-2030.
Slovenia saw a 3-percentage-point decrease in overall life satisfaction from 2021 to 2022, with satisfaction levels noted to be highly dependent on factors such as health and activity status.
Greece faces challenges with a perceived drop in good or very good health among women and lower satisfaction with life and personal relationships, according to Eurostat data. While Slovenia and the Czech Republic saw a rise in perceived health from 2020 to 2021, the issues in Greece highlight the urgent need for well-being initiatives.
The LEAD-WELL project, an Erasmus+ KA210 Partnership titled "Digital Stepping Stones to Well-being," is a 24-month initiative running from November 1, 2023, to October 31, 2025. It is funded by the European Union and involves partners from the Czech Republic (Svaz personalistů České republiky, z.s. as coordinator), Greece (DAFNI Kentro Epaggelmatikis Katartisis), and Slovenia (Šolski Center Slovenske Konjice-Zreče).
