Evaluation of music research:
For this porject, I had to research different aspects of music influence from each decade. Including factors such as historical events, development of music styles, and the advancement of technology over the years.
Across the 50s-90s, music advanced greatly in things such as technology, with the developments of things such as the multitrack recording, the different versions of synths being released over years, the development of microphones and studio equipment etc.
Over this research, I have learnt about the different technology used in a studio and how it changed over the decades. I also learnt about different compositional techniques used over the decades and the influences of certain compositional techniques such as Layering and Overdubbing, this technique became increasingly popular in the 80s being known as the 'wall of sound' effect. And drum machines are also an important technique that grew popular in the 80s. Learning these different compositional techniques will help me when creating my own music, as it helped expand my knowledge on different elements of creating music, and it also enhances creativity as a musician giving a bigger understanding on music theory and the different aspects in music while also developing technical skills. It also allows you to understand better the mechanics of music and how to create your original pieces.
Research into the different historical events helps show how music was influenced over the years and how people such as John lesson used music to spread awareness of certain life events that happened over the years. An example of this could be the influence of the Beatles on America after the death of J.F.Kennedy. Research the different ways music was influenced helps give an understanding when analysing or listening to songs and what message they might be trying to portray. It also gives ways, when creating own music, how to spread your own message in music such as lyrical use or using certain sounds in songs to create a illusion of a real life event.
Overall, research into the different aspects of music over the years helps expand knowledge on technical skills and also theory/ creative skills.
