On this page, I have written about a recording plane that the band can follow in the process of recording one of our original songs in a studio.
Recording session 2:
Friday 24/1/25
Objectives: clean up drums and bass recording and try to add guitars.
-Check drums recording make sure it sounds all in time
-re take the bass if not go straight on to adding rhythm guitar and do a couple takes to make sure its consistent
-if theres time to add the lead guitar and do the ame process of mulitple takes.
Roles: Vinny- bass+ rhythm guitar/ Tyler-drums/ Joseph- guitar /Me- producer.
Equipment that will be needed will be things such as:
Mics: C1000 (2)-(overheads)/ SM57 (snare)/ AKG D112(kick drum).
In this recording session, our aims are to get the drums set up as quick as possible and recorded, doing roughly 3 takes, trying to keep them consistent. finding any small flaws, and make sure the structure/ length stays the same all the way through out the song. Once drums are down, we can add bass (or do it at the same time) and hopefully move on to adding the rhythm guitar.
Recording plan:
On this page i will discuss what i would like to achieve when recording, and the process going through it. Also discussing things such as risk factors and our aims.
The goals/ aims for this recording session would be to set up the drums and bass as quick as possible and get them recorded within the first 20-30 minutes, using the last 20 minutes to get the recording of the rhythm guitar. We would do at least 3 takes of the durms and bass to get a set structure down for our song. Through this recording session I would like to achieve a clear take of the drums and bass at the least, with minimal to no mistakes in the end result. Then if possibe having the rhythm guitar added to the track while also doing a couple takes to make sure its consistent with no mistakes and coming through clear onto the track.
Equipment we will need are: Microphones such as C1000 for the overheads, SM57 for the snare, AKG D112 foor the kick drum, Sennheiser e604for the toms. For the bass we ca also use the SM57, placing the mic up to n amp and recording through that way (refer to task 3 blog for more information on equipment). We will also need headphones (two lots if bass and drum is at the same time).
Once we go nto the studio, we will need to start setting up the drums straight away, and setting up inside the control room such a setting up tracks and placing the leads into the corresponding inputs to which mic is in what input, ie. if the AKG D112 was in input 1 in the recording booth it would be track one. One everything is set up we can do some test runs to make sure all sound is coming through then adjust the gain levels on each track so nothing is too over powering. Once everything is set up, with agin done, we can do a test run so everything sounds okay and then start the recording process.
Once a couple takes are done we can look over the tracks to make sure everything is consent and see what flaws come up through the recording to which we can work on and chnage through discussing any ideas on the recordings.
Risks that can come about in the recording studio would be things such as equipment getting damaged, i.e. tripping over wires in the recording studio can lead to breaking other equipment and potential injuries to anyone coming in and out the studio. Another risk would be having drinks in the control room, as spillage can lead to the electrical equipment being damaged and you can have the risk of losing your process on recording. One more risk is the loud noises through the drums, suggest the drummer or whoever else is present when recording drums wheres ear protection ie. headphones or ear plus.
