Week 5:
planning and production:
context-purpose-aims and objectives
For this week my aims are to get vocals onto my second track and upload that onto SoundCloud then my website, I also want to get my website looked over for some advise to what I can add or improve. I need to get myself prepared for the CCI performances I will be doing on Friday (16th) doing things such as, fully learning the lyrics to both songs, making sure I have both backing tracks for Ian to access when I perform, and do some practise runs.

context- purpose- aims and objectives- pre production
For my research, I added some videos that correlate to whatever i was researching with time stamps (such as belting etc). I uploaded photos that correlate to each item on my equipment page to give visual representation of what i was talking about.
I didn't do much research this week as i had completed most of it and put my attention to the practical skills more to get my songs fully finished as it is getting closer to the deadline

I got vocals done but am going to re recorded them either today (13/5/25) last lesson or on Friday (16/5/25) second lesson. Ts is because the mic lead wasn't working well so we had to change it and i ony had 10 mins to record vocals. Judith recommended some tips such as going up a key or two when starting the chorus, so i'm going to rerecord it and try some different things out with the vocal techniques and key changes i could add. Then my friend Audrey might add some harmonisation to my tack so well see if we have time and get her to record some stuff onto it.
I sat with Cassie and listened back on my track with vocals of my second song, and spoke about what dynamics i could add to give the song more flair as the vocals are very monotone. We spoke about the difference between live performance and recorded versions of songs and how in a live performances theres more emotion shown when performing compared to when recording vocals onto a track its very robotic, and monotone. Cassies suggested going up a few keys or so when singing certain lines and drawing some words out in the chorus, make it more up and down rather than flat. Im going to look over and see if i can re-record the vocals on that track but however have come down will a illness which is making my throat really sore preventing
During my second lesson with Matt (16th), He went through some astering and mixing techniques on logic with me. He showed me the process of how to remove the silence from the vocal tracks which is room noise where the microphone picked up etra sounds from around the room when i wasnt singing. He then added two reverbs onto the vocals, one was a short 30 millisecond reverb to make it sound like there was two of me singing. The second reverb helps make my vocals sound bigger, thickening up my vocals and added a longer reverb to mkae it seem like im in a more nicer interesting space when singing. He then added compression which means anytime I sang really loud, it takes it down a bit. meaning my vocals never get crazy loud, and sort of turns them up which makes hte quieter details of my vocals a bit more intense and emotional. For the chorus, he doubled the vocals leaving most of the duplicated vocals the same but added a lot of distortion, with only the high frequencies (570 herz) coming through. So if you were to listen to the doubled vocals by itself it sounds slightly distorted and slightly thin. But when you add the main voclas back on it gives the chorus a bit more edge and lifts it up a bit. Finally, he used a plug in to master it to make the song sound full helping the vocals sound like im pushing harder.
To the left is the final product of my track, and above are photos of the process of mastering and mixing my track
