On this page, I am going to write a plan put for a rehearsal on creating our own original songs.
Plan
Objectives: To go over song one, since there has been minimal playing of that song. Then run through song 3/4 together as we have yet to add lyrics on top of the instrumental. Go through song 3/4 two or three times so we have it down and make ay tweaks if need on things such as structure or lyrics if needed. Then do a final run through of all songs and record the process and final take.
Try to take minimal time to set up, i.e. tuning, drum set up, vocal warm ups. Roughly take 5/10 mins
structure:
-5 minutes to set up and warm up
-10 minutes to reflect on what we have achieved so far and discuss what needs to be worked on
-30 minutes to go over song 3 and make sure the structre is clear
-10 minutes to discuss if all agrees on the song, and if anything can be changed
-final 5 to run through the song.
I never got around to doing my rehearsal video due to being off when I was meant to do my video. However, for my rehearsal, (at time spent at home), I focused a lot on song 3 and how I could add lyrics over the instrumental as I found it a bit tricky due to the irregular time signature. Here I am going to talk about the possible factors I would discuss with the other band members, and how they could've helped with the melody and structure.
The goals/ aims I would have in mind for this rehearsal would be to be able to set lyrics to the song and figure out a melody to the song. Furthermore, to have a set structure and to clean up any rough patches. To do this, we would need to set up, i.e. tuning guitars, vocal warms etc. and have a discussion on the song and our thoughts on it. Talk about any ideas anyone may have, and talk about how we could put the lyrics together for the song and put them onto the instrumental of the song. We should do all that in the first 10-15 minutes of the rehearsal the to move onto playing through the song and to figure out a structure to it, such as seeing how long we want each verse/chorus to be and other factors such as solos, breakdowns, and the outro. We should take 5 mins to play through what we already have then another 5 to discuss the structure we want to have for it and then play it again with whatever we have changed. We can repeat this method until we have something set in stone to then move onto adding the lyrics over the song. Cause of the irregular time siginture, adding lyrics can be a bit complicated so I would want to discuss melodies and see what other members have in mind just in case anything would need to be changed in the song to make it work a bit easier. Once we've discussed any ideas we can move onto singing roughly over the instrumental again and again until something more secure comes about.
During this process, it would be good to take a couple 5 min breaks to help maintain focus and to help prevent burn outs and boredom arising.
We will take a final video at the end of the rehearsal to show progress from the first take to the last one, and to show how certain aspects have changed, and to discuss them and reflect on them.
Risk assessment.
