Rehearsal plan:

SONG 1-FUNK FEVER
For our song 1, we did a more funky, upbeat song. Joseph came up with a riff to start off the song. Later Vinny added a bass line and Tyler added some drums. We worked on the song over the course of two practical sessions (2hours) and completed the whole song in that time, including the structure of the song. We ran it through a couple of time in some other session, but overall was our quickest, and simplest song we have done. Th lyric process was a quick on as the stimuli was about a destination, I decided to do it about going to a place that plays funky music, and makes you wanna dance. As that was the feel I got from this song. I came up with the lyrics by repeatedly listening to the instrumental, and going with the flow/ whatever came to my. I took inspiration from the song 'Play that funky music'. The boys (Tyler, Vinny, and Joseph) included the other stimuli's, which are to include a chord progression of any choice, and to us this pattern
This is the pattern we had to include in our first song.
These are the lyrics i came up with for our first song. I came up with by just listening to the track and making them up as i go.
This is the instrumental of our song one. Joseph came up with the idea of this song creating the intro/ rhythm and Vinny helped work of that afterwards.
SONG 2- MEDUSA
BARBWIRE
Lyric writing process:
To start of the process, the boys in my band started coming up with ideas of a song, such as coming up with a chord progression, then adding on from there by adding bass and drums. Vinny gave the idea of basing the song around medusa and started writing some basic lyrics. I started writing some prompts that can be used through the song and worked off the lyrics Vinny gave me. The stimuli for this song had to be about a journey, so i tried to base the song about the journey of one of the many men that had met medusa and been turned to stone. Over the Christmas holiday, i listened to the snippet of the song the boys had produced and tried to guess what they would carry on doing and think of a melody to go with it. The process of writing lyrics involved a lot of re-writing due to not liking a particular line, or it not making sense. The lyrics to the left are a rough copy of what I have come up with but will most likely change.
Our first band rehearsal:
For our first rehearsal, the boys went straight into creating an instrumental and running through the genre and the vibe we wanted the first song to be like. I would say the outcome was a grunge style song with a quick tempo. I had recorded some of the process on voice notes to show how the ideas come about within the band. To the right is the final draft that we ended on for the first song, and yet to be worked on.
Vinny came up with a guitar riff for the base of the song that. turned into the verse for the song, later on they added a chorus by messing around. Vinny then moved to bass and Joseph took over on the gutiar, and Tyler adding in some drums. coming up with the first draft.
For the lyrics, i ended up changing the verses but kept the chorus. The final outcome of the lyrics are on the left. I changed the lyrics to be more about describing medusa, and her apperance. I did this through researching her story and what was said her appearance was like. I wrote down key words and pieced some lines together.
We changed this to ur song 2 instead of 1 as the stimuli was about a character. I changed the lyrics to make them descriptive of medusa. We did a final run through of the song and recorded it
The final draft of the lyrics changed to the chorus just beig 'oh medusa' 4 times.
This is a performance we did of Medusa our song 2, (23/01/25), In this version, both Vinny and Joseph are play guitars, with Jospeh doing riffs and solo parts over Vinny's repetitive chord progression/ rhythm.
This take went particular well, however we do need to do some 'cleaning up' just to smooth the song out such as the chorus (changing lyrics).
SONG 3:Never grow old, never die
Pedal note, syncopation, cut up technique, Lost boys, Dexter. Quotes, broken up into random. 11/4 irregular time signature
For this song, we had to include these stimulus: a pedal note, a triple time signature, and for the lyrics we had to use a cut up method. When I wrote the lyrics for this song, I used an A3 sheet of paper and wrote down a load of quotes from different tv shows such as Dexter, and films/plays such as Macbeth. I ended up writing more quotes from the film the lost boys into my phone and used the majority of those quotes for our song with song Dexter quotes. I sat with Judith for some input and I struggled to find a melody to sing over our song as its 11/4 and then some help on how to piece the quotes together. Vinny came up with the majority of this song, he started by playing a rhythm on his guitar and getting Tyler to add an irregular time signature over it. From there they worked on the different segments of the song and the pieced them together for the structure. We worked on the song for about 2-3 hours (2-3 practical lessons) as its a short simple song.
The boys changed the song up a bit when I was away, there was a lack of communication but I listened to what the changed and changed up the lyrics a bit for the final performance, I also changed up the melody as well in the second verse and it became more melodic.
This is a video of the instrumental, that became our final take.
These are the lyrics I came up with using the cut up method, I had some help from Judith to pieces some verses together creating the idea of 'never grow never die' for our 3rd song. I ran into some mental blocks with creating a melody as nothing really fitted over the pattern of the song, at first the lyrics would be sung to fast leaving me a bit stuck. Eventually i tried breaking the words up to spread them over multiple beats which helped get an idea of a melody.
Song 4: she said
Modal interchange, Ostinato, covert conversation. Recorded convo, picking pieces from own convos, using 'she said' to make a convo in the song.
For this song we had to include these stimulus: Modal interchange, an ostinato pattern, and for the lyrics we had to covert conversations. For the lyrics, originally Vinny and Joseph were going to write the lyrics, however on the last day before half term they had struggled to write them so i took over. During my hour break, me and my friend faith recorded some of our conversation and took some pieces from there. I then finished the lyrics at home by using some pieces from different conversations I had had throughout the day, or from some conversations I had overheard. This song we ended up scrapping due to time and how long we would have to perform, so all bands from my group only performed their 3 best songs.
FINAL PERFORMANCE: TV STUDIO
To the left is our final performance in the tv studios. We ended up only performing 3 ordinal songs due to time and not fully finishing the song as I had time of from being ill.
Our first song was 'Funky place', then 'Medusa' and finally 'Never grow, Never die'.
Above is some snap shot photos from our performance in the TV studio.
