Title: Embracing Technology for Wellbeing

Description:

In this presentation, I will share a curation of apps, mapped to the teacher and student standards and the SDG’s. This interactive, virtual conversation will empower you to enhance a Digital Citizenship program at your school or to introduce the concept of technology for wellbeing.

Joanne is an SDG advocate and uses the SDG’s as a lense in MYP Design and the Grade 8 Community Project. She volunteered advice at the UNleash's SDG Innovation Lab in Shenzhen in 2019.

As an ISTE advocate, she led an in -school ISTE standards integration committee and is currently pursuing a Common Sense Media Schools license; with a particular interest in using technology to enhance wellbeing.


The focus of my presentation was on consuming technology in a way that promotes wellbeing and positive production patterns.

ISTE Standards:


1. I am an Empowered Learner

1a: I articulate and set personal learning goals, develop strategies leveraging technology to achieve them and reflect on the learning process itself to improve learning outcomes.


2. I am a Digital Citizen

2b: I engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using technology, including social interactions online or when using networked devices.


Objectives: Teachers were introduced to the idea of using technology to enhance wellbeing.

Share: I shared 2-4 free apps and presented ways that teachers can use them to facilitate students meeting the standards above.

Pair/Think: Teachers were paired off to think about additional ways they can use technology to meet the standards above.

Outcomes: Teachers were equipped to share the idea of technology for wellbeing with their colleagues and feel inspired to embrace it with their students.


Joanne is an Apple Teacher, Adobe Campus Leader, Common Sense Media Ambassador, Ideo Creative and First Lego League Coach. She brings experience from her role as an ICT Integrator for Apple EDU South Africa (EMEA) and project manager for Pearson Education South Africa into her Design Lead role at Shen Wai International School, Shenzhen.

Joanne co developed the SWIS Makerspace, robotics, digital and product design Labs. She has led the development of the FRC, FLL and VEX IQ Robotics teams and integrated VEX IQ into the design curriculum. She developed the SWIS Media on- campus reporting Team and Roc Sports Reporters in 2019-20.
