Make Fashion Edu

My students adapted the sneakers they designed in class to be flown down the runway which unfortunately wasn't possible due to building restrictions.

On May 27th MakeFashion Edu hosted its first fashion show at the Design Society’s Sea World Arts & Culture Centre in Shekou. 20 Teams of young designers from local and international schools combined fashion and technology to tell a personal story on the runway.

In the build up to the event students and their mentors attended workshops to learn about electrical circuits, programming, and pattern construction. Each designer submitted their design concept and inspiration, sketches and techniques and recorded their complete production process.

Over three days, models went through two rehearsals and a professional photo shoot. Then, the sun began to set, the lights were dimmed and the venue was overflowing with guests up to the second floor balcony.

We’d like to congratulate Gracjana Siewert, who worked independently to design her piece, Carousel and Arthur Ma who designed basket ball shoes inspired by the Black History Movement to “ shine a light on equality”. London Reese created a light up guitar inspired by her love for music.

The Design Society provides an exciting platform for students to share their ideas and exhibit works. We would like to thank everyone who made this event possible and look forward to future collaborations.
