Following שלום עליכם, a series of פסוקים from משלי פרק לא praising the Jewish woman are sung. Before we go further, it is necessary to acknowledge that everyone - I mean everyone - sings one universal melody for אשת חיל composed in 1953 by BenTzion Shenker, of Modzhitz fame. (At one point it was even common to sing his אשת חיל as part of the wedding service, though I have not heard this done in a long time outside the S&P of London אשת חיל [EA].) What anyone did in 1952 and earlier is anyone's research opportunity. In the interest of a bit of diversity, we have chosen to primarily list alternate melodies here. (Anyone who wants to learn Shenker's only has to be invited to an Orthodox home for the Friday evening meal. It's simple, catchy music makes very easy learning.)
