During the early years of the Chassidic movement, the בעל התניא, one of the movement's prominent leaders at the time, was informed on to the authorities by his opponents, such that he was imprisoned in the Peter-Paul fortress in Petersburg. Where he was freed, on יט כסלו, he composed the ניגון ד בבות or "ניגון of 4 Stanzas", whose four parts corresponded to the four metaphysical worlds of יצירה, בריאה, אצילות and עשיה.
This ניגון is considered by many of Chassidic leaning to be from the holiest ניגונים ever composed, such that it is only sung on special occasions, like פארברענגעןs in honor of יט כסלו (considered by חסידי חבד to be the ראש השנה of חסידות) or נעילת החג (also called סעודת משיח) on the last day of פסח. It is also sung as part of the סדר ברכת החמה. Many also have it sung or played at wedding ceremonies (as can be heard in the first recording below).
