Participatory Resource Mapping may be conducted which is a strategy for identifying and analyzing the programs, people, services, and other resources that currently exist in the locality.
The identification of the existing financial and non-financial services should be done in two ways:
a. Desk research and data gathering
b. Validation Activity - Key Informant Interview/ Focus Group Discussion
In conducting desk research, the VC Team should generate a list of all the support services relevant to the commodity that are being provided by the government and non-government institutions. These data may be requested from NGAs, and other institutions or the VC Team may conduct KII with the financial services provider - especially the local providers, to gather information. The output of the activity should cover the enumerated financial and non-financial services, the providers, requirements for the availement of the services, and the identified stakeholders.
After the conduct of the research, KII and/ FGD may be done that will serve as a validation activity. All relevant VC actors should be informed about the purpose, duration, and output of the conduct of the activity and be guided by the following:
- Present the identified list of financial services to the participants
- Ask among the participants about the support services that are relevant to their functions; how are their experiences in accessing the services, and what are the hindrances/ constraints experienced.
- On the support services that were currently not being accessed or utilized by the VC players, ask the reasons why these services were not being maximized.
- the lead facilitator may ask the participants on other existing support services that were not included in the initial list.
Following the validation activity is the support services analysis. In the analysis, look into the transactions that get services and how these can further be optimized and improved. Additionally, the constraints and opportunities faced by players in accessing identified solutions/ services should be identified. Lastly, investigate sustainable delivery strategies of the support services.
