EPHEMERAL CREATURES

...a brief life between tides

Some presences I try to save from time. Others I create knowing from the beginning that time will take them away.

While my ceramic sculptures preserve a discovery beyond the natural cycle of erosion, these ephemeral creatures embrace that cycle. Made from seaweed and other natural materials found nearby, they are created on site and allowed to exist only briefly.

Here, the process begins not with a character waiting to be discovered, but with the materials themselves. I bring them together, shaping a temporary presence that will soon be changed, scattered or carried away by the tide.

One works against erosion. The other accepts it. Both begin and end with nature.
