Photographer, sculptor, and visual artist based in Estoril, Portugal.
My fascination with discovering faces in nature stems from a lifelong interest in the meeting point between observation and imagination. Inspiration often arises from ordinary places and unnoticed details. Rather than beginning with preconceived ideas, my work begins with encounters: the discovery of stones whose naturally weathered forms suggest faces and distinct personalities.
My fascination with discovering faces in nature stems from a lifelong interest in the meeting point between observation and imagination. Inspiration often arises from ordinary places and unnoticed details. Rather than beginning with preconceived ideas, my work begins with encounters: the discovery of stones whose naturally weathered forms suggest faces and distinct personalities.
Inspired by naturally weathered stones and the Japanese tradition of suiseki, I work with photography and ceramic sculpture as complementary artistic languages, exploring the relationship between nature and creative interpretation. I extend these stones into fictional characters while preserving their original form and essence. The character already exists; the sculpture allows it to become fully present. The process unfolds as a dialogue between imagination, guided by a simple principle: what is added should never erase what already exists.
Once completed, the sculptures are photographed in the landscapes where the original stones were discovered. Some have since inspired stories, including Glop-O, the Visitor, the first book to emerge from the broader If Rocks Could Talk project.
Begun in 2022, If Rocks Could Talk brings together sculpture, photography, storytelling and land art. It explores imagination not as an escape from reality, but as a way of listening more closely to the world around us.
The Estoril coastline remains both my open-air studio and my greatest source of inspiration. Every walk becomes an invitation to discover that imagination often begins by noticing what has always been there.
