Hag Stones 

   ...windows shaped by time.

Also known as holed stones or fairy stones, hag stones are naturally pierced by water, erosion and time.

For centuries, their unusual openings have inspired folklore, superstition and tales of magic. They were believed to offer protection and, according to some traditions, even to reveal hidden worlds when looked through.

In the faces I discover, these natural openings often become eyes, mouths or other features, making them strangely more lifelike and more magical at the same time. A real opening in the stone can turn the suggestion of a face into an uncanny presence. 

I simply find it fascinating that nature can make a window in a stone.
