Lichens, Fossils, Seaweeds, Shells...

...small worlds, unexpected faces

Along the coast, faces and characters emerge from some of the smallest and most unexpected things — lichens, fossils, seaweeds, shells, fragments of jellyfish, crab remains and other natural elements left behind by the sea.

Sometimes I simply find them as they are. At other times, discovery gives way to play. Some have taken shape over immense stretches of time; others will disappear with the next tide. Whether found or briefly arranged, they all begin with the same invitation: to look again at what might otherwise go unnoticed.

The closer I look, the more inhabited the shore seems to become.
