Privacy

“Privacy - like eating and breathing - is one of life's basic requirements.”

Katherine Neville

Some people believe we have no private lives any more. What are your views?

It is true that modern technology allows us to stay connected to family, friends and events all over the world. But, do we have private lives when we are connected all the time? In my opinion our lives are becoming less private.

To begin with, social networking connects almost everybody. This means that as soon as something happens to someone it can go viral through social media. As a result, information about someone can go out without consent or any form of control and spread very quickly.

Moreover, news can now be reported instantly by anyone. For instance, most people have smartphones that can take photos and videos and these can easily be published on the internet. Consequently, someone could film you and put a video online without your permission.

On the other hand, people who use social media sites often want to share their personal information freely. This means that they are not really worried about their lack of privacy.

Taking everything into account, I believe our lives are becoming more and more public because of modern technology. Photos can be uploaded within seconds and news can be reported immediately which is obvious that we no longer have private lives.
